Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about volunteering with our team.

Do I need medical experience to volunteer?

No. Medical experience is not required. We provide training and guidance. Volunteers primarily offer companionship, emotional support, and assistance with non-clinical activities.

What kind of patients will I work with?

Volunteers support individuals receiving home health, hospice, palliative care, and veteran services across the DFW area. Patients may be in private homes, group homes, nursing facilities, or community settings.

How much time do I need to commit?

We offer flexible scheduling. Most volunteers serve 1–4 hours per week, but we work with your availability.

Can I choose where I volunteer?

Yes. We do our best to match volunteers based on:

Location within DFW

Comfort level (home vs. facility)

Patient preference (veterans, hospice, etc.)

Schedule availability

Is this emotionally difficult?

Working with hospice and palliative patients can be meaningful and emotional. We provide support, training, and guidance to help volunteers feel prepared and supported.

What makes a great volunteer?

Compassion, reliability, patience, and a willingness to simply be present.

REAL STORIES. REAL IMPACT.

The Impact We’re Making Together

"Loved every minute of volunteering"

"Volunteering with Charlin Home Health gave me a meaningful way to connect with the community while gaining valuable experience in an important area of healthcare. As a biochemistry student, I especially appreciated how supportive and seamless the entire process was. It helped me better understand what people truly need, and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering volunteering."
